The collections were carried out in Peru in 2020, in Huánuco, Loreto, and Ucayali regions. These collections were carried out within the framework of the project A wood species identification tool to aid in compliance and enforcement of Peruvian timber regulations funded by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the USAID Prime Award Number AID-0AA-A-11-00012, to generate a photographic database of transverse sections of wood samples belonging to Peruvian species, for identification in the field with the XyloTron system. To generate the database, trees of commercially important species were identified from which botanical samples were collected and wood slices were extracted from the basal, middle, and apical sections. The botanical samples were deposited and identified in nationally certified herbaria. The slices were sized until obtaining xylotheca-sized samples (2 cm x 10 cm x 15 cm), whose cross sections were sanded until the anatomical components were appreciated.
